Yummy Mummy Returns!

It’s that time of year again and I’m not talking about braving the shops in the search of last minute school books and uniforms. I’m talking about that joyful moment in every parent’s life when your little darling has been waved off, the classroom door is closed and you can finally drink a full cup of uninterrupted tea when you make it home. But before you slip back into the old routine, take a minute or two to focus on you. You’ve spent the last few weeks kitting out your beloved children for school, (a challenging task at the best of times) now let’s get you looking back like the yummy mummy you are!

So what makes a ‘yummy’ mummy? Well it’s all about the appearance that everything is under control. (Even if you are still wearing your pjs under that fabulous new winter coat and one of the socks you’re wearing under your boots belongs to your ten year old daughter!) If you are up to your eyes in the morning with breakfast, uniforms and makings lunch, don’t let the chaos reflect through your appearance. Now is the time to plan for the months ahead in terms of what pieces in your wardrobe work and what only add to the chaos!

Invest in a few key pieces that will see you looking trendy, organized and definitely ‘yummy’ over this Autumn/Winter. An essential is a good winter coat. Topshop, Oasis and Coast have high quality winter coats just arriving that will see you looking glam throughout those long, bitter days. Remember the better the quality and cut, the smarter it will look. Dunnes, Pamela Scott, Awear, Oasis and New Look all have a great selection of smart blazers and jackets for the start of this season. A mac or trench coat with a belt is always great for defining the waist and can smarten up an outfit instantly. The military style influences again this season, not to forget the ever popular leather biker jacket.

As always a good pair of jeans is a must-have for any mum on the go! They can be dressed up or down so whether you’re heading straight to the grocery store or meeting the girls for lunch, jeans are an essential item for all. Team them with a not too high pair of wedged or platform boots and not only will you be the height of fashion, you will also be able to manage the school runs in the morning and afternoon in comfort. The bootcut and flared jean are still holding their own in the prevailing world of skinnies! For comfort, affordability and quality you can’t go wrong with Awear, Dorothy Perkins or New Look. For those who need a higher waisted, more supportive jean I recommend the fabulous Lift, Slim and Shape jeans from Next..They are available in bootcut or skinny leg and trust me ladies, they are flattering in all the right places, my favourite jean at the minute and all for €60! Pamela Scott are famous for their wide selection of jeans for all shapes and sizes and the Not Your Daughter’s Jeans are still a worthy investment buy.

Not sure what to wear with your jeans this season? Think textured fabrics like brocade, velvet, fur, leather, lace, high necked collars, double-breasted tops and the ever-flattering peplum top, these will be a smart addition to your wardrobe. For maximum comfort on those rainy and cold school days, why not team leggings or your favourite pair of skinnies with a loose fitting A-Line or skater style dress? The key to style is feeling comfortable in your self and what you’re wearing, so who could go wrong with a dress that is both stylish and forgiving too?!

For those mornings when you just don’t have the time to spend on your hair why not conceal this fact with a hat? Dunnes Stores already have a very affordable and trend-on range of hats to suit all styles and tastes so this season there is sure to be something out there that can be called on for any hair emergencies on hand! Try anything from the cloche, beret to a trilby hat to hide those tresses until you get back home from the early morning school run.

Looking like and being a yummy mummy doesn’t have to be the same thing! Who needs to know if you’ve just peeled half a slice of marmalade toast off your back pocket or discovered an unidentifiable piece of furry fruit in your handbag, while looking for the car keys? The beauty of looking stylish and composed in the morning is that all the madness that happens behind closed doors, will remain behind closed doors. When you finally arrive at the school to drop off your little darlings, your well planned look will be the envy of all the other mummies and little will they know what lies beneath!
