GameStop are the largest specialist retailer of games in the world. The company operates over 4700 stores throughout the US, Austria, Australia, Canada, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Italy, Ireland, New Zealand, Norway, Puerto Rico, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the Unites Kingdom. In addition, the company owns a commerce-enabled Web property, GameStop.com, and the Game Informer magazine, a leading video and computer game publication.

GameStop sells the most popular new software, hardware and game accessories for the PC and next generation video game systems from Sony, Nintendo, and Microsoft, and is also the industry’s largest reseller of used video games. In addition, the company sells computer and video game magazines, strategy guides, action figures, and other related merchandise to more than 30 million customers worldwide.

GameStop Ireland was originally founded in 1994 by Kevin Neary and Michael Finucane as Gamesworld. Gamesworld began trading at the rear of an established bookstore in Dublin and grew organically during its first nine years to record a €15 million turnover and a store count of 11 stores.

In 2003 Gamesworld were approached by GameStop to engage in a transaction that saw a controlling interest purchased by GameStop.

The organisation re-branded and was tasked with carrying out an aggressive expansion plan throughout Ireland and into the UK, which is currently underway. GameStop currently operate 50 stores in Ireland and 7 in the United Kingdom.
